Why did Mr Gore develop The Climate Project?

Mr Gore has been refining his slide show presentation on global warming for the last 30 years. He has used it to address all kinds of high profile audiences, including the Indian Parliament, on the issues of climate change. His work, and other campaigning work on global warming, means that more people understand dangers resulting from climate change. Mr. Gore felt that it was in government and public policy that the awareness should be reflected.

So, after not being elected to the White House in 2000, Mr. Gore decided to widen his remit and travel around the world to deliver his slide show and share the information to “anyone who felt compelled to listen.”

The movie An Inconvenient Truth was a direct result of a presentation made in LA. It was awarded an Oscar and was very successful at broadening the audience for Mr Gore's slide show.

Soon after, Mr Gore had the idea that he could further multiply his outreach by training individuals to deliver his slide show. He started training climate presenters in his home town of Nashville where The Climate Project was born. Each presenter trained commits to presenting a minimum of 10 times, using there own networks and resources to do so.

We are hoping to make that happen but there are no tentative dates as of yet.

Who is a typical presenter?

There isn't one. Some are housewives, students, elderly, or professionals. Professions range from doctors, lawyers, dancers, architects,   some employed as doctors, lawyers, farmers, dancers, architects, others are volunteers.

Who do they typically present to?

The idea is that a presenter would choose high impact audiences. Some will proactively plan their 10 presentations, and/or fill requests made to The Climate Project – India.

If further training sessions are carried out the will invite applications for presenters. I am not a presenter but can I have access to the slide show?

Unfortunately that is not possible at the moment, but we recommend buying the film/book An Inconvenient Truth or reading the many web resources on Climate Change that we will provide links to.  We also hope to develop India-specific presentations and materials to put on our site.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Does the slide show change?

Yes, many different versions exist which have been developed by Mr Gore and presenters to ensure nuance of the audience is reflected in the slide show.   The Indian presenters will be using some slides that talk about the domestic impact of climate change.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

What has been the effect of this initiative so far?

Tens of thousands of people understand the effect of climate change and that the issue is not the property of environment groups or scientists. The issue is now understood to be a moral one, which can be redressed by small and wholesale changes either in people’s everyday lives or by government policy, both of which individuals can influence.

How can I see the movie An Inconvenient Truth?

It has been released on DVD and should be on the shelf at your local video store for you to hire. We would like to add that even if you are a presenter, we can not send copies of the movie out at this time.
